Set the size of your flat and the sum insured written on your policy. The chart draws what you get back for a claim of any size, and where the two Berlin averages land on it.
Loss along the bottom, what the insurer pays up the side. Both axes in euros.
Bicycle theft away from the flat is a separate clause, and it is capped at a small share of the sum insured.
How this is worked out. The benchmark is the 650 euro per square metre of living space that German insurers use as the minimum sum insured; take it and they normally waive the underinsurance cut. Below it, the payout is reduced in the same proportion as the sum insured to the real replacement value, even when only part of your things was hit. The euro figures are the average losses the Berlin police recorded per completed case in 2025, checked on 20 September 2026. This is an estimate to argue with your own policy, not a quote.
