Hungry at the Brandenburg Gate?

Pariser Platz is one of the worst places in Berlin to eat: a handful of photo-menu restaurants charging landmark prices. Tell me what you want and how far you will walk, and I will point you at something better. Walk times are from the Gate itself.

Skip these right at the Gate: the "traditional German" places on and just off Pariser Platz with laminated photo menus and a host waving you in, the currywurst stands charging tourist prices, and anything with a live-music surcharge. You are paying for the address, not the food.

The move locals make

Buy a few things at a bakery or a station supermarket, walk two minutes west into the Tiergarten, and eat on the grass by the Neuer See. It is the cheapest good lunch near the Gate, and on a warm day it beats every restaurant on Pariser Platz.

Guidance from a Berlin walking-tour guide, checked on 20 August 2026. Places and prices change; treat this as a starting direction, not a booking. My free tour runs through this exact part of Mitte.
